Gandhiji’s Favorite Hymn Vaishnava Jana Toh Recreated For Nandita Roy & Shiboprosad Mukherjee’s Gotro

2 min read

Trust filmmaker duo Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee to always weave their magic and treat the audience with something extraordinary. And this stands true not only for their movies but also for the music of the films. Their upcoming film Gotro, post the huge success of Konttho, is certainly no different.

The power directors, who have become synonymous with content-driven cinema, after mesmerizing us with songs like the melodious ‘Neel Digante’, the peppy mood uplifting ‘Rangabati’, and the lively ‘Hitler Er Hotel’ from Gotro, have now dropped another lovely number — ‘Baishnob Sei Jon.’

A recreation of Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite Gujarati hymn — Vaishnava Jana Toh, the song is composed by the talented music director Anindya Chattopadhyay and brought to life in Shreya Ghoshal’s surreal voice. After weaving magic with the Rabindra sangeet — ‘Neel Digante’, ‘Baishnob Sei Jon’ is Shreya’s second song in the film and undoubtedly is another gem in the film’s album.

Gotro is based on a social issue and tries to remind us the importance of humanity over religion by means of a heart-warming story. After the 2011 film Icche, this is Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee’s second film focusing on mother-son relationship. Interestingly, the directors, who are known to deliver one film a year, after 8 years have broken their own rule and Gotro will be their second film this year.

Like all, Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee films, Gotro is produced by their banner – Windows Production. The film will hit the screens on August 23, on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami.
