Pakistan has put a ban on the release on PadMan. According to Pakistani Censor Board, the movie is based on ‘periods’ and that is against their culture. Pakistani journalist Meher Tarar opposed against the ban of the movie in the country. She took to Twitter to say that the subject of the movie is neither immoral nor un-Islamic. Her tweet read as “Banning PadMan in Pakistan is another one of those illogical things that simply affect the business of cinemas in Pakistan.Menstruation is a fact of life, and bringing it to mainstream consciousness is neither immoral nor un-Islamic.”

On the ban, one of Pakistani censor board members Ishaq Ahmed said, “We can’t allow our film distributors to import films which are against our traditions and culture.” The Punjab Film Censor Board members also refused to watch the movie as they think that the movie is based on a ‘taboo subject’ and they refused to give clearance on it. One of the members said, “We can’t allow the screening of films on taboo subjects in our cinemas as it is not in our culture, society or even religion.”
Syed Noor, famous Pakistani filmmaker said, “Not only this film PadMan but I think even Padmaavat should not have been released in Pakistan as it portrays Muslims in a very negative light.”PadMan is doing well at the box office. On the first day it made a collection of Rs 10.20 crore, second day Rs 13.68 crore and on Sunday i.e on the third day it raked in Rs 16.11 crore. Based on menstrual hygiene, the movie is the real story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who made machines to make low-cost sanitary pads for women.
